PSSDC Lauds State Public Affairs Employees
The Director-General of the Lagos State Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC), Dr. Senukon Olufunmi Ajose-Harrison, has lauded Public Affairs Officers (PAOs) employed in the State public service for the continuous projection of policies and programmes of the current administration encapsulated in the T.H E.M.E.S agenda. Ajose-Harrison, who made this disclosure during the opening of a Three-Day Virtual Course tagged "Effective News Release and Features Writing", organised for PAOs on Grade Levels 07 to 09, admonished the participants on the imperative for continuous improvement and the need to "up the ante" in service delivery. While seeking active participation of attendees in the three-day webinar, Ajose-Harrison stated that the course was designed to provide ample opportunity for participants to unlearn, learn and relearn for business continuity amidst COVID-19. Speaking further, the Director-General said PSSDC is latching on the reality of the new normal and has organised the virtual course to enable PAOs hone their skills for the task ahead, adding that the webinar was convened in compliance with the physical distancing rule. "Things have changed and organisations are beginning to show more interest in staff capacity building. The latest capacity building formula is 35-65. 65% of the things you need to know should come from you while 35% is imparted on you. You have the responsibility to get yourself engaged and acquire more knowledge. Whatever knowledge you have acquired, steps must be taken to put it into practice. Do not lose focus, continue to strive despite challenges. Whatever you gain from this training should be improved upon", he told participants. Ajose-Harrison acknowledged the critical roles played by PAOs through the dissemination of news and information that keep Lagosians abreast of happenings in the State, saying PAOs need to do more in terms of engaging the media due to the critical importance of the Public Affairs function. The Director-General maintained that Lagos has been "blazing the trail" in every aspect of governance and will continue to do so, emphasising that PAOs must double their efforts by ensuring timely and adequate information is released to members of the public. He implored the officers to continually interface with the media to ensure more wins of the current administration are celebrated.
