PSSDC Explores Partnership To Make Lagos 'Knowledge Capital Of Africa'

The Lagos State Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC), Magodo, has finalised plans to partner with an international institution, "Knowledge Hub Ltd/GTE" to make Lagos State the knowledge capital of Africa. Director-General of PSSDC, Dr. Senukon Olufunmi Ajose-Harrison disclosed this on Tuesday, during a bilateral discussion with the management team of Knowledge Hub Ltd/GTE led by a seasoned administrator and knowledge management expert, Prince Lekan Fadina, saying PSSDC had been creating knowledge and offering capacity building programmes to public servants and relevant stakeholders since its establishment 25 years ago. Ajose-Harrison said the Learning and Development programmes of the Centre are designed after thorough analyses of training needs, stressing that its programme delivery is done by seasoned and experienced in-house and associate facilitators of learning who utilise in-house, local and international knowledge materials. While appreciating the collaborative intent of the management team of Knowledge Hub Ltd/GTE, the Director-General said PSSDC has the mandate to coordinate the implementation of capacity building in the State Public Service, adding that the Centre will continue to seek partnership and collaborative opportunities with top-of-the-breed institutions locally and internationally. He expressed the earnest desire of the Centre to continue being a formidable capacity building institution, saying that with strengthened capacity, PSSDC has been contributing to national development by providing cutting-edge relevant Learning and Development Programmes to Public Service stakeholders. Ajose-Harrison further stated that the Centre has engaged in collaboration and continues to seek opportunities with local and international educational, management development and professional institutions. Acknowledging the readiness of PSSDC to partner with Knowledge Hub Ltd/Gte, the Director-General said the Centre is poised to leverage on Information Communication Technology to deepen professionalism and excellence in service delivery with affordable, cost-effective and high-quality programmes that will promote self-paced Learning and Development in Public Service, through e-Learning and computer-based testing. Also speaking, the Managing-Director of Knowledge Hub Ltd/Gte, Prince Lekan Fadina, appreciated the management of PSSDC for the warm reception, disclosing that the Institution decided to collaborate with PSSDC to drive a process where "knowledge capital" can be developed. Fadina said in the global preparation for economically and socially disrupting post-COVID-19, every nation knows that the available knowledge capital, level of digitalisation and innovation would be the most priced resource, advising that Africa must not be left out in the movement away from ego-system to the new global ecosystem with its volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity. Making a justification for the positional relevance of Lagos, Fadina averred that out of 36 states in Nigeria including the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos State accounts for about one third of Nigeria's GDP, asserting that most commercial activities in the country are in Lagos. He opined that in view of the fact that Lagos is the commercial capital of Nigeria, it is imperative for the State to also be the knowledge leader of the country and Africa at large. He maintained that Knowledge Hub, a representative of the global knowledge management organisation, Knowledge City, has the capacity to project Lagos as the knowledge capital of Nigeria and Africa, stating that the choice of PSSDC for collaboration was to have an institutional basis for the activities that would herald the building of a knowledge base for development.
