LSACA Sensitises Artisans On HIV Prevention

The Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA), in pursuit of its mandate to prevent the spread and mitigate the impact of HIV and AIDS in the State, has commenced the training of the executive members of Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association (NATA), Lagos State Chapter, amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Addressing the participants at the event, the Chief Executive Officer, LSACA, Dr. (Mrs.) Monsurat Adeleke said the association, due to the nature of their work, has practitioners with challenges in accessing healthcare for reasons such as poor health-seeking behaviour and social beliefs. She said the awareness campaign was being carried out following Governor Sanwo-Olu's directive to sensitise members of NATA because the sector is critical to the economy of Lagos, with a significant Adolescent Youth Population (AYP) that are contributing to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Reaffirming the commitment of the present administration to youth development and well-being, Dr. Adeleke explained that aside from the need to educate NATA members about HIV, the group is essential to the mobility of the patients and the health workers seeking care and treatment during COVID-19 and should, therefore, have their Executives trained to serve as ambassadors at their respective Local Government.
