Lagos HoS Urges Civil Servants To Extend Courtesy To The Public
The Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola has made a renewed call to all Civil servants to show a high level of courtesy in their interactions with members of the public, saying that Lagosians should be accorded respect whenever they seek services from government establishments. The HoS made the call at the commissioning of Education District II Service Charter Office and provision of modern office equipment in Maryland, Lagos, describing the Service Charter as a brief public document that provides the essential information that citizens require, about the services or functions of a public agency or department, and the way in which these services can be accessed efficiently. He stated that the service Charter initiative, now embraced by Education District II, confers additional responsibilities on the entire staff of the District to be more diligent in the discharge of their responsibilities, adding that the additional equipment will make the work environment more comfortable while energising the staff for maximum performance. Muri-Okunola commended the focus and commitment of the leadership of the Education District II to the spirit and letters of State Policy on Education as well as the present administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda. He expressed the hope that the Administrative, Teaching and Non-Teaching staff of District II would see the Service Charter, now domiciled in the Education District, as a call to duty, saying that “to whom much is given, much more is expected”. "As we say in Lagos State, 'the reward for hard work is more work'. Therefore, the commissioning of the Service Charter and Office equipment today should not be seen as mere ceremony or officialdom, but a call to duty", Muri-Okunola stated. The Tutor-General and Permanent Secretary of Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye said that her intention is to reposition the District for the imminent take-off of a self-sustained technological growth and accelerated development, adding that the launch of the Service Charter and provision of modern office equipment has become inevitable in the attainment of the lofty vision. She informed that a Special Unit has been created in the District to deal expeditiously with persons not satisfied with treatment meted out to them by any of the District's officials, assuring that the entire complaint process will be closely and continuously monitored, evaluated and graded by a Charter Committee that will recommend certification and reward systems for deserving members of staff. The TG/PS expressed confidence that the resultant synergy from faithful adherence to the Service Charter initiative will put Education District II on the frontline of quality service delivery. Recall that the Lagos State Government in July 2012 officially adopted and launched the Service Charter initiative to streamline and enhance the efficiency of operations and services of its Public Service Charter initiative to streamline and enhance the efficiency of operations and services of its Public Service.
