The Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo and the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye have paid a working visit to some schools in Ikorodu zone under the District to ascertain the infrastructural needs and the intervention required by the schools from government. The visit, according to the Commissioner, became necessary in view of the ongoing deliberations on modalities for school resumption, especially in respect of the forthcoming West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and how to ensure the safety of the participating students. She underscored the need to educate all schools across the State on how to safeguard the lives of the Students/Teachers by having necessary safety measures in place before resumption, amidst the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic. Adefisayo emphasised that running water must be constructed at the entrance of the schools and at strategic locations in the School premises with soaps and sanitisers in order to encourage the students to wash their hands regularly in addition to the compulsory use face masks by all. According to her, the sitting arrangement of students in a standard classroom should not be more than 20 for physical distancing and in order to allow the teachers have unhindered movement around the classrooms.

The Commissioner also mentioned that the State Government will adopt a staggered method for the resumption of students to allow their teachers to have proper coordination in monitoring the activities of the students. She commended the commitment of the TG/PS, Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye for demonstrating leadership and for her unrelenting efforts aimed at getting the best out of the students and teachers. The Commissioner specifically acknowledged the doggedness of the Tutor-General for visiting the 106 schools under her supervision within the short period of her redeployment to the District to familiarise herself with the officers in order to provide a lasting solution to their challenges. She urged the Principals and School Authorities in the District to ensure that the school environment is conducive for learning, assuring that proper safety measures would be put in place for the resumption of the students sitting for WAEC. Among schools inspected were Isawo Senior Community Grammar School, Isawo; Gberigbe Senior High School, Gberigbe and Elepe Senior /Junior Grammar Schools.
