COVID-19: LSACA Distributes Relief Packages To People Living With HIV/AIDS

The Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA) has distributed 3,000 COVID-19 relief packages comprising 2000 packs of noodles and 1,000 sacks of staple food items to People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH) in Lagos State. Addressing beneficiaries during the distribution of the relief packages, on Wednesday, at the Agency’s office on Lagos Island, its Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke said the gesture is a reflection of the inclusive governance initiative of the present administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Dr. Adeleke stated that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who also doubles as the Chairman of the Agency, sought for the relief materials under the auspices of Private Sector Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID), for onward delivery to the Ministry of Agriculture and the Lagos State Coconut Development Authority (LASCODA). Describing the relief materials as an all-in-one package, she disclosed that each of the 1000 LASG/CACOVID sacks distributed contained 5kg of Sugar, 1kg of Salt, 10kg of Rice, 5kg of Garri and a Carton of Pasta, apart from the 2000 Cartons of noodles. She explained that the 1000 members of the association, who will benefit from the relief packages, include Network of People Living With HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN), Lagos State Chapter; Association of Women Living With HIV/AIDS (ASWHAN); Association of Positive Youth in Nigeria (APYIN) and Association of Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) among others. Responding on behalf of all beneficiaries, Mr. Patrick Akpan from NEPWHAN, Mrs. Victoria Mba from ASWHAN and Mr. Kosi Umeh from APYIN said they felt elated and expressed their appreciation to the Lagos State Government, LSACA, CACOVID and LASCODA for the kind gesture. They envisaged that the effective monitoring mechanism of LSACA will enable all their members across the State to benefit from the relief materials. Recall that at the inception of the pandemic in April, the Agency had provided similar palliatives to People Living With HIV/AIDS in partnership with the Nigerian Business Coalition Against AIDS (NIBUCAA), as well as ensuring that 78,052 HIV clients placed on treatment were provided with two, six months drug supply; stocking of 185 community pharmacies with ARVs for pickup by HIV positive clients in the neighbourhood across the State and the identification of more HIV positive indigent clients.
